This is a smashing plant Amy. Not very often seen the red varieties. And, presumably, as the name suggests, it won't grow as large as some varieties do. I might consider one of those myself if I can find one. Putting Tom Thumb into my fav's

Hi Gwendas how tall is yours and how old , does it keep that lovely colour ?

I bought a little pittosporum like this last year but the new growth is green and then changes to dark red.

This is lovely.
With Ajuga reptans "Evening Glow" , does the new green growth change to darker purplish in the same way ?

Hi Amy
Mine was planted this time last year - it seemed to struggle a bit through the very wet summer - don't know if that was the cause but has really picked up and lots of new growth as Gee19 described. It does stay that gorgeous glossy red.

Hi Amy - looks lovely! I've just bought and planted one, too. Mine is covered in bright green new shoots. I love the red colour but chose it carefully mainly because I needed a fairly small one ( my other, plain green one has grown slowly into a quite large tree!) Tom thumb is now in a very large pot...

I have one that i planted about 3 years ago, they're great for bronze coloured foliage (new growth being fresh green).
Their ultimate height's about 4' x 4', mine's currently about 2 !
They make a nice rounded little shrub :-))

Thanks Voval and Louise , mine has some nice new green shoots but i'm afraid it has some frost damage down one side , the leaves have shrivelled up and fallen off , i'm hoping it will recover and grow new leaves that side .. .. also we have had to take out my big plain green one it was about 7ft tall which has died this winter leaving a huge gap ... I have bought a Black Lace Sambuca to replace it , it should be more winter hardy .... :o)

Ah, yes, i remember you saying of this now, the bronze leaved area will look lovely - i have a bronze border too :-))
Mine has Phormium 'Bronze Baby' there aswell.

A nice rounded little shrub is just what I want Louise! My green one is more than 20ft! My "Bronze Baby" is enormous - a misnomer? It flowered beautifully last year. I hope Tom Thumb will survive the winter.
