I planted this Sambucus in a pot as it was so small, but it's grown so much, will soon have to come out!

I had this when we lived at the cottage, I used to cut it right down to the ground and each Spring it was back with its beautiful Golden Foilage!

Did it have Elderberrys on it PP ?

I'm not sure, Amy if it will, it hasn't had any flowers and the ordinary elders are flowering now ( Ian's hoping to make some Elderflower Champagne....he used to make it years ago and it was really scrummy!). Maybe it's not big enough yet, shall keep on checking though. Did yours grow very tall Pp? I'm wondering where to plant it when it's time to come out it's pot.

Have found the label Amy, and it is the Red berried Elder....Sutherland Gold, should have yellowish white flowers in Spring and then bright scarlet berries later. Has a spread of 9ft and height the same.....crikey, that's one border full....Lol!

You,ll have to move your walls Janey ...LOL..
Can you still use the scarlet berries for Champagne , it might be better not so dark as the normal purple berries , we tried making elderberry wine once .. never again . it smelt awful it put us right off it ..LOL..

We did the same Amy and it took about 3 years to clear but was really full bodied and potent! To make the Champagne, you use flowers which are out in the hedgerows now, and use plastic bottles or wine bottles. It has to be left a year and then when the Elders are in flower again, it turns sparkling! It's amazing really, before the year is up its non-fizzy then when the flowers are out, it's bubbly and a pretty pale lemon colour!

All I can remenber about my elderberry was that it had wonderful golden foilage and did grow quite tall around six foot because it was in such a confined space I chopped it down awhhh imagine me missing out on potential Champapange?////////////////

Now by the looks of that last line I would say you're already indulging Pp....Lol!

This reminds me of Pieris `Forest Flame.....Except the leaves on this
beautiful plant are fronded bit like a fern. I think it is because of the
lovely Autumn colouring...Another 1 of your class 1 Plants Janey....
