More Poppies and a butterfly

A quick walk around the garden this morning revealed even more poppies newly opened and a beautiful butterfly settled onto the alliums, really close by the poppies. I was so thrilled to see this as Dianeb had mentioned you didnt usually see butterflies in the garden when you had poppies growing there. I will keep a look out to see how many more we get coming in. I would be upset if I was putting them off, so we shall see.

Here he is!

The project for yesterday was to get the hanging basket brackets up, that I bought from a reclamation yard at one of the shows – nice huh?

Thanks Pimp, I love breaking the rules when it comes to colours. I know some people would be horrified but the garden is for me! Yeah Pix, I wasnt doing it to prove Diane wrong, I just wouldnt want people to be put off growing such lovely flowers.

There are rules?

We only have 81 (I think) species of butterfly's in the Uk..most of what flutters by is a moth, we have several thousand. Plant the right flowers and you get both.

Recently seen brimstone butterfly,.......buttercup yellow and I spotted a couple of tiny blue ones too, if you grow the right plants you do see them....beautiful....

What would you classify as the right plants Pamg? you must be growing the right ones to see so many butterflies, can you send a few of those blue ones over to me?

Im still slavering after seeing the Pattys plum Shirleytulip photographed Sticki. Ive got one in the back garden waiting in the wings. Ill put a photo on when she makes an appearance.
Pixi having a higgledy piggledy garden is a sign of a creative person - at least thats what I say when the OH complains about the state of the house! We know where things are, dont we?

Love the hanging basket bracket ... so nice to be a light colour instead of the usual black! ... Regarding Butterflies and flowers ... there is a blog by Spritzhenry posted on 5 Sept. 2010 ... titled 'Butterfly Magnets' ... very helpful suggestions of plants loved by Butterflies ... :o)

I had a little blue butterfly in my garden today, He wasn't by the flowers I had put in for bees & butterflys. So my son stood there laughing as I waved my arms about telling the little butterfly where to go, Lol.

Your poppies are lovely. I've never heard that about butterflies. I hope it isn't true.
I like your bracket. It reminds me I've got a nice old one that I brought from my mother's house. I must get round to puting it up somewhere.

I exaggerated Hywel there are less than that, info from www.butterflyconservation

"There are fewer than 60 Butterfly species in Britain.

There are over 2,500 Moths!"

Pimpernel I meant what Poppylover said in her blog. ... lol
Now I've read your comment (I don't usually read all the comments - no time) ... and I must admit there are fewer butterflies than there were. I only see the white ones and a few Admirals these days :o(

31 May, 2012

Lol..I see Hywel, you have such a range of plants and flowers I would have thought that you saw quite a few.
There are less and less here due to all the developement that has gone on.

Sad that they seem to be dwindling :o(
But on a happier note, I have seen 3 ladybirds this year so far. Last year I saw one, and before that, none for many years ...

Sorry Poppylover I don't mean to hijack yopur blog lol ...

Hywel you feel free! lol I love reading peoples comments when theyre having a chat. Pimpernel is obviously quite knowledgeable about butterflies and moths. ~Whats the most common butterfly and moth Pimp?

31 May, 2012

Oh Willi - I can just imagine you waving your arms about - Silly lady!
Pixi, are you feeling well? Housework??? whats that! lol

Not very Knowlegeable Poppy. I joined ButterflyConservation just a little earlier in the year after reading a blog by Drc.

The most common butterfly I would guess as one of the whites..but there would be a difference depending where you live.

Most common here are the peacocks and whites I think. So far this year I've seen orange tip, peacock and tiny blue, think holly blues. Love your soft pink poppy:-)
