Strawberry plants

Hereford, United Kingdom

Hi everyone, it was always my understanding that strawberrys reproduced like spider plants and sent out a new plant as they were asexual, could any of you either confirm this for me or correct me if im wrong,if anyone could tell me how to duplicate my plants it would be very much appreciated, Cheers.Rich

They to send out runners that produce young plants. They start with no roots and as the runner grows more appear and the oldest runner plants begin to put down roots. I
f you want more, then dig a hole below a runner plant, place a plant pot with soil in under the runner plant and peg it down into the pot. Keep watered and within a few weeks, the runner plant would of put down roots into the pot and if all the plantlets along the runner have been rooted like this, then you can separate them from the parent plant and there you have it. Don't remove from the parent plant before it roots or it will die.

If, like us, the birds eat a number of the fruits, you may get self seeded plants in various places. Not all of them produce good fruit, but enough to to be worth keeping to fruting size.
