Am I flogging a dead tomato

leebugs

By Leebugs

Kerry, Ireland

I'm down in Kerry Ireland and we havent seen sun since early June although we average 14 to 18 degrees. We've had the wettest July ever! I have lots of green tomatoes but none have ripened. Am I being impatient or should I give up and try again next year. Varieties = Costaluto,Lidl, Tigerella, Buffalo, Orange & Yellow pear and a few others I cant remember. My green house is too small so I have them in the greenhouse and outside in different aspects as dictated by where I can train them up a wall. All are doing pretty much the same although the greenhouse ones do have about 20% more fruit. I really need some inspiration. Thanks

I find that small bush tomatoes ripen the earliest, if you keep them in pots you can move them or cover if weather poor, feed well and in desperation store the unripe ones ( if fully grown with apples or bananas as they give iff --i think its an enzyme-- that helps ripening--in a brownpaper bag is best (old gardeners tale)
