Good or bad harvest?
By Nariz

We've just harvested our potatoes and from 41 plants got approximately 40 kilos of spuds - about 1k per plant. We had reds and whites (sorry - don't know the varieties as the chitted potatoes were given to us by our Spanish neighbour). Is this amount good? Bad? About right? The original chitted spuds seemed rather soft when we planted them - was this right?

I'd certainly be happy with a kilo of potatoes per tuber.

Thanks guys! I feel better now - I thought I should have expected more, but I was obviously being over-enthusiastic (as always!). I'll be grateful for what I've got.

I would be very satisfied with 1k per tuber, Nariz. Probably better than average.
The original seed will often be going slightly soft when you plant them as they are starting to rot down to provide the first nutriment for the growing plant.
