How do I keep my strawberry plants for next year?

I've been told I can keep my strawberry plants for next year so I potted the shoots into new pots and cut them from the main plants once I was sure they had rooted well but what do I do with them now? I have a cold greenhouse, do I keep them there over winter? do I need to cut all the foliage off? Do I keep the initial main plants for next year too? I'm very new to all this and although I have had some success stories so far I'm not really sure what keeps from this year to next so any help is very welcome!!

Hello Joir and welcome to GoY. First of all let me say that you have picked the best web sight in the world and no I'm not being paid to say that......
As for your strawberries, well yes you can keep the main plant as they tend to stay 'good' for about 3 - 4 years and the best way I know how to keep all strawberry plants is to cut the foliage down to the crown (in the autumn) and they should be ok just left outside as they are. I am assuming they are in pots? If they are in the ground then I certainly wouldn't disturb them by digging them up.
All the best........Ian

Thanks Ian you have answered a question I thought of asking about strawberries. It is the first time i have grown them in a grow bag. I need the little shelter for some tender plants to overwinter. I have a place for the grow bag to overwinter outside and refurbish it without too much root disturbance in the spring. I will give it a go and see if I get a better crop
