Winter Vegetables

Please can anyone suggest what sort of Veggies would be suitable to be planted around now, ready to use in the Spring? My neighbours have made some lovely raised beds and are at a loss to know what to plant this time of the year, they are new to gardening. I said I know a place where people would know............LOL

I would sow spring cabbage then transplant them in the ground when large enough ,with a collar around them to protected them. Also plant onion sets.
