should wood planter boxes be lined

Answers

Not necessary - assuming you are using pots inside, on a plastic tray, and your planter is simply hiding 'the works'

I always use old compost bags. I cut slits for drainage in the bottom before filling with compost. You can't see them once the plants establish. It also helps them to retain moisture and could even prolong the life of your timber. I am currently using some raised planters made from decking boards, nice and strong and sturdy, I have tomatoes, strawberries, radish, carrot, swede, spring onions, courgettes and peas, they would dry out very quickly if I hadn't lined them.

How do I say thanks?
