Jacque, container stock can be planted anytime of the year, providing the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged

Thanx again Blues lets hope all this Snow&Frost will be gone soon :)

Unless the plants to be planted have previously been kept in a sheltered environment, I don't think frost would be too much of a problem.

Doesn't sound as if the lady in charge of planting is a gardener Jac...you will have to keep her right....lol As Bluespruce has already said...providing the ground is in good heart...etc....etc.

In the last decade it has been possible to dig and plant in several Januarys but this year is a lot colder for longer, tell her it is not possible as your ground is frozen and suggest she try digging it for you? lol.

Just ask her if she wants the plants/shrubs to survive and point out why they wont if you plant now and then there is another freeze...
Mr MB & I had a disagreement with the Organic Garden folk recently. I'd ordered raspberry canes in October expecting them in November. When I sent an e-mail in mid December was informed 'these are bare rooted so we have to wait until totally dormant and will dispatch in January' I have to confess I was very annoyed, I'd pushed for organic canes whilst Mr MB wanted canes from Perthshire which we would have had in November. Sent a, hopefully, polite e-mail explaining that we had 10 inches of snow and that frost was expected for a lot of Jan. and please not to send before contacting us. No reply... if they appear in the middle of a freeze I shall refuse and tell them why - again!

Others have said what I was going to say.....great minds etc.,.... wonder why the powers that be put a non-gardener in charge of planting????doesn't make sense does it. Thats good that the vouchers are on their way.....of course you could always pretend that they haven't arrived yet......lol

MG: Your problem with your raspberry canes..It makes you wonder sometimes how people can run a plant business without being sympathetic to weather conditions........I would imagine that their stocks are frozen in the ground too....

Nothing ever makes sense on/in Councils Amblea lol :)

Amblea... I was astound when I received that response. Mr MB had already stated we ddi not need organically grown canes - how I wish I had listened to him. We would have bought in November and they would be tucked up safe in the fruit cage now. As it is we have no canes and no hope of any for weeks, by which time it will be a little late. Grrr. We will continue to buy seed them but not anythnig else.
