welcome from me too. you should be able to plant lots of things but keep an eye on the overall weight as this space looks to be 'upstairs'. dont want the whole lot becoming your neighbours garden :o)

If you're looking for planting ideas have a look at Balcony's page. Just type Balcony in the search box top right and click on Balcony's gardening profile. There's also a section on balconies on Goypedia. Click on the B at the bottom of this page to take you to the pages.

Welcome to GOY this looks a lovely area for planting in containers. It seems to have quite an overhang is it shady and which way does it face?
Have you checked with the lease holder or your deeds if there are restrictions such as weight and use? Also have you thought about drainage when you water, as I do not see a drain and this may cause damp problems? Is it someones room underneath or another Balcony? Containers of compost, plants and water can be very heavy. Also do you want room to sit out there as it looks as if it might be nice place to sit? Do you want permanent planting or seasonal flowers and how about perfumed planting?

I have just been looking at Goy member 'Pollyannever' pictures they have a balcony a similar size to yours. Do have a look it might well inspire you?

Thank you for all the responses. The balcony faces to the North and is quite shady. It doesn't jut out from the house so it can hold a lot of weight. There are two drain pipes on the balcony so there won't be any problem with to much water if I keep those clear. I'm only 15 and live in a two story house so there isn't anything underneath but another garden. I never expected there to be any room to sit. Also I'm sorry for not checking this and responding, I lost computer for a week and only just got it back.

Thanks for all your help!
