I found these tiny orchids in the woodland of my back garden in Valencia, Spain. They are between 6 & 10cm tall. Does anyone know what kind they are please

They look like Bee Orchids (Ophrys apifera) to me, from the 'lip' markings.

Aren´t they gorgeous, I couldn´t believe it when I found them. I just googled Bee Orchids Spritz, and you´re right, thanks.

There was a load years ago outside on the verge where i work, but the council kept mowing them down over the year!!! The people at the nursery complained and complained and nothing happened and now about 20 years later the council dont touch it!! Stupid idiots! Angry!!!!!

I hope mine don´t disappear Seaburngirl. Luckily there is quite a clump of them. Not surprised you´re angry Nicky, I would be too.

Don't let the council workmen in, Gwen! lol.

Nicky, I'd be tempted to sneek out after dark with a trowel & rescue them, (even if it's illegal to do so) they will probably end up dying anyway from being constantly cut down. :-(

I don´t think we have anything faintly resembling a council workman Spritz !! lol.

Glad to hear that - and you're lucky! Some over here can be real 'jobsworths'.

Tell me about it. I'm having another battle here. Because they haven't seen the problem for themselves, they refuse to acknowledge there is a problem. Fortunately I'm on good terms with the ward councillor

Oh dear, Andrew. Yet more battles! :-((

Indeed, they are bee orchids!!!
We have also some of them in Belgium but they are very
few in number and protected.
