William Wordsworth 1770-1850 in Cockermouth of the Lake District of northern England, is one of the most important English poets and a founder of the Romantic Movement of English literature. Wordsworth, along with Samuel Coleridge and Robert Southey, became known as a "Lakeland Poet" because of the area where he lived, which is renowned for its beautiful, wild landscapes, charming pastures, and countless lakes.

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Oh thank you Drc726 for the complete poem, its a lovely one isn't it? I work with preschoolers and one of them has behavioural problems, she loves daffodils. I was resitting the poem and then forgot the words!!, she of course she lost interest, and I had lost a special moment!

Pleased you have the complete poem, I was going to put it all in the blog as its my favourite too, but it was late last night when I posted the blog and I was tired!
Heres a little ditty I use to say when I worked with Nursery children many years ago.

Daff-O-Down-Dilly
Daff-o-down- Daffodown Dilly has come to town
In her yellow petticoat and her green gown.
