Gardening Poem

In the world we now live, this poem could not suit all but it made me titter, taken from an old gardening magazine. I’m sure it will make you smile too.

My Wife the Gardener

She dug the plot on Monday –
the soil was rich and fine,
She forgot to thaw out dinner –
so we went out to dine…
She planted roses Tuesday –
she says they are a must,
They really are quite lovely
but she quite forgot to dust…
On Wednesday it was daisies –
they opened up with sun,
All whites and pinks and yellows –
but the laundry wasn’t done…
The poppies came on Thursday -
a bright and cherry red,
I guess she really was engrossed –
she never made the bed…
It was violets on Friday –
in colours she adores,
It never bothered her at all –
all crumbs upon the floors
I hired a maid on Saturday –
my week is now complete,
My wife can garden all she wants –
the house will still be neat!
It’s nearly lunchtime Sunday –
and I cannot find the maid,
Oh no! I don’t believe it!
She’s out there WITH THE SPADE!

:-)

Love it! Sometimes its good to have a bit of old-fashioned fun! ;)

That's a brilliant poem.
You can put 'he' there too because that poem describes me !
Earlier on I told Beryl we'd have dinner by 12.30 but I was in the garden and the time went quickly so we had it at 1.45
and she couldn't have peas with her dinner because I forgot to put them on to boil - I was in the garden ...
and there's a pile of clothes waiting to be folded and put away ... maybe tomorrow ??? or maybe one day next week :)
who cares lol

Agreed Karen.
Haha Hywel, I like you’re style :-)
I’m always losing track of time.

So true - time definitely goes faster once you start gardening - and it's far more fun than housework of any description!

So true.

Love it Dawn. For some strange reason, my greenhouse is much cleaner and tidier than the house!

Lol Dawn it is brilliant.

I would have thought this poem was about me but I'm clearly not the only culprit! Dust can wait, plants can't.
I always wanted a cleaning lady but maybe even that wouldn't work apparently!
Hywel you are amazing - don't know how you do it...

Neither do I Sue lol

I agree with this poem. How can I garden all day and still make dinner?

I’m like a child when it’s time to go in and make dinner, feel like stamping my feet, like I want to stay out and play.

Recently Dawn, I was in the garden and could hear Beryl calling me from the house and saying "something's burning !!"
It was the kidney beans, they had boiled dry and were a brown mess at the bottom of the saucepan . I hate cooking. We'd have much more time for our gardens if we didn't have to eat :)

Lol Hywel . . . that's so true :)

You could sell that idea as a new slimming diet Hywel ☺️

Brilliant!

it had to be written by a man. It made me laugh as I could hear the bewilderment in the man's voice.the same can be said for me when I'm either gardening or sewing. true for hubby when he is in the workshop [which he is at the moment as he has a new bike to rebuild. 1961 Panther 120].
not sure who will do the cooking tomorrow. sandwiches tonight :o)

Haha made me laugh and words so true.
Baz likes to remind me when something hasn't been done or I've forgotten ;)

Made me smile too,Dawn..and give me a trowel any day, rather than a duster..it only settles again,so what's the point ?? ha ha
