I think it depends on your location Andrea. The Acacia is native to the Mediterranean region, and so is happy with bright sunlight and drier conditions. If you are in the south, and sheltered it may be okay, other than than I would grow it in a pot and only have it outside for the hotter of the summer months (if there are any!) Good drainage is essential.
