Two of my hanging baskets have been flattened between 9 pm last night and 3 pm this afternoon. Can anyone tell me what did it. Was it the hot weather, or possibly a pigeon or something alse sitting in them ? Please see pics. Thanks

They do look as if they have succomed to dryness rather than flattening? The compost looks a little dry in the pic?
Welcome too.

I would agree with Great and Fluff. Give them a good soak and see if they recover, good luck and welcome to GOY!

You can buy some gel that helps retain moisture that you can put in the basket

I do hope you can revive them. Were they newly planted up? If so,you would
be better keeping them in a shady place, till they get settled in,as the recent hot weather was probably too much for them.Welcome to GOY from me too..

The compost did look desperately dry!

They look like Busy Lizzies to me. A day like yesterday is their sworn enemy!!! They love the shade, revel in it. One very hot summer I had planted my neighbours window boxes with them, and they went potty, and even seeded . Their seeds go pop and get flung around. The window boxes were in deep shade most of the day. Also may I point out there is not much soil in your second picture of the ? pansies.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ANSWERS.
I am just a novice in this gardening lark, but enjoying it.
The two baskets have both improved with the stems upright, but obviously the flowers look very sorry for themselves. Should I dead head them or leave them for a while?

We are are here to learn from each other, so dont worry. I would :_
1. put your baskets in a shadier place
2. water in the early am and in the evening
3. Give the flowers a couple more days and if they still look sorry for themselves dead head them
Fingers crossed

And I was thinking that they were Violas! Either way, Great's advice holds. There's lots more flowers where they came from if deadheaded.
