Is anyone else trapped in their home tomorrow? It's the London to Brighton bike ride and we are completely trapped all day long by up to 25,000 cyclists. We can get on with the garden - weather permitting - and the great thing is - no traffic noise - just the wheezing and grunting of cyclists riding up the hill! It starts at 7.00 and finishes at about 16.00.

They are welcome to it. You can laugh at them over the garden wall.

We'll be trapped from going into the centre of Edinburgh next week. The Royal Highland Show is on and it's truly not worth making the effort!
I do hope the weather holds out for you Cammomile and you can get some serious gardening done.

Yes,but for different reasons..Patio at the back being lifted and relaid,as it has sunk in parts..I have enough with a broken wrist,so don't need a broken leg as well! at the same time, repointing of the roof at the front....lots will be confined in July, when the Tour de France comes through ...all cars from the Friday evening before, will be towed away from outside homes if they are on the route, which will be many..mobility cars included..and most bus services rerouted..or cancelled. All side roads leading on to the main route will be blocked off.Goodness knows how carers will get to those who need them...or how people will get to work..just glad it isn't coming past our house !I know it's a great event, but it hasn't been thought through very well..rant over !
On a positive note,all necessary roads have been resurfaced,and potholes filled in..yippee ! :o)

I'm always amazed that a few people can't function without using their cars for a couple of hours. Round here, a few of the roads are closed for an hour or two once a year for a local half marathon, yet motorists still insist on driving down them, putting the runners in danger.

I agree,Andrew, but from Friday evening till Sunday morning,is a bit more inconvenient for a lot of people..it will take that long, apparently,to re open them, starting Saturday night..from Halifax ,via our town of Huddersfield for several miles over the border into Lancashire..quite a lot of roads to clear enroute..
