Looks like aphid infestation, spray with an appropriate pesticide.

Thank you Bamboo and Snoopdog, it is absolutely covered in them.......... I feel like a bad mother not noticing it sooner!!!!!!! Will hose off what I can will any bug spray do or do I have to get a specific type??

So long as it says it treats for aphids, it'll do - but some pesticides are systemic and some are contact only - with the second type, they have no lasting effect after initial contact, but a systemic penetrates the sap stream of the plant and works for up to two weeks.

I find a mixture of water and washing up liquid is quite effective --shake it up and spray. It has worked on the greenfly and blackfly that were attacking my roses and clematis.You can get spray bottles in garden centres and supermarkets.

I agree with the washing up liquid theory. I rinse and re-use spray bottles from household cleaner.

Thanks Pennyfarthin for your advice, think I will be trying combination of all of this as there are so many then I might get some ladybirds in a bid to keep them at bay:)
