Or it could be the Crown Imperial type, which likes a sunny position. Watch out for scarlet lily beetles in spring, as they like to munch on these.

frit meleagris aka 'Snakeshead' is a native of meadowland & doesnt mind abit of damp where-as the larger 'imperialis' requires a better drained situtation & a top-tip for these is to plant the bulbs on their side on a handful of grit before covering them, much less prone to rot just in case of excessive wet. Otherwise they are happy in the usual garden border.
There are a host of different frits available now so best to check which one's require what etc.
