Green Garlic cloves

A fair few of my garlic this year have thin skins and the individual cloves have gone green. Chlorophyll?? Are they safe to eat as I know potatoes are not??

hi pete, did they grow above ground or were they covered in soil? like to know for future reference......steve

They where planted like onion sets but when the bulbs formed they where mostly above ground which would be their natural habit
