Hello all,
I'm very new to gardening, and I'm keen to recycle where possible. I have a large drinks fridge with double glazed doors that is out of commission. Would it be possible to turn it into a useable greenhouse?
Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Goy - and yet another gardener from Aberdeenshire. We're doing well today - at least three of us on the site today.
I'm not so sure about the fridge, though. I would wait for more advice on this.

Very funny Pimpernel :)
Welcome to GOY Hiddenbadger :). I seem to recall someone asking this question a while back.
From memory - I think the advice was no....one reason that I can remember is that a greenhouse needs 360 degree light or else the plants would not grow correctly. I cannot remember the other reasons which were give.
Hopefully someone else will answer, alternatively you could try searching for the question.
I will see if I can find it and post a link.

Legally fridges and freezers have to be disposed of in a safe manner to prevent gases escaping.
Even so all you would end up with is odd shaped elongated plants and mildew/disease due to lack of light and poor/no air circulation.

As someone has just said, your plants would not grow properly and would all bend one way .to search for the light. Does not sound the best of ideas.

You've been watching 'Wall-E' haven't you! Despite him finding the evidence of a sapling in a fridge that Earth had regenerated, as is stated above - it's not a good idea.

Ha! Sorry but I think it would be better to have it recycled at the tip but you could maybe make uses of the glass doors. :o))

No, is the short answer - but I'd take the doors off as they're glass, useful for propping against walls with plants between in winter for a bit of extra protection.

Hello,
Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question. I've had the gas removed by a pro, so it would be safe to use, but its sounding like I wouldn't have much luck. I'm not adverse to a bit of diy, so might try adding in ventilation and an other window. I'll let you know how I get on!

Why bother HB? mini plastic green houses cost from £10 up.

It's about reusing stuff, Drc, that's why, I'd imagine. Which is something I fully understand and agree with.

I think recycling at the tip is preferable to filling gardens with old fridges Bamboo.

I don't know - I'm all in favour of finding new purposes for items wherever possible. I never throw away the fridge racks, nor the glass shelf, they're useful outside.
