I think it would be better in the ground, Jac. The ones round here grow to the size of a small tree!!! It may be different in Norfolk, but they can get big if they are happy!

Belated happy birthday Jacque, i wonder if thats whats wrong with mine, i got it bare rooted through the post and its not showing any sign of life yet, its green underneath the bark though, maybe ought to put mine in the ground.

happy b day.
i have susan in a very large pot and for 8 years she flowered. last 2 she hasnt. must be a sulky sue!

not sure as the only place suitable has honey fungus and they dont like it, or more to the point honey fungus likes it.

Most any shrub will do in a pot with even watering. Remember the plant can't be bigger than the pot (imagine all the plant rolled up in the pot.) Pruning back to keep in shape for the desired pot size will keep it happy, healthy and blooming. Pruning would be best after flowering like a lilac that also blooms at the branch ends so it has time to make new buds through summer for the coming spring. I've been planning an indoor magnolia for years, but getting it here.....lol :-) Happy belated B-Day!

Happy belated birthday. I had a Magnolia stellata in a large container and it didnt like it one bit. I had no flowers this year at all so it is now in a temporary pot awaiting me to find it a home in the garden
