The Survivors

We have lost many many shrubs and trees this last winter in the back garden particularly, due the fact that the garden is at the bottom of a slope and is in a frost pocket. And we had a lot of snow in Cardiff, much more than usual.
However there have been some successful survivors, some of which see stronger than ever. Perhaps its due to all the tlc which I have been giving the garden, including the blood fish and bone, growmore, chicken pellets and Miracle Grow.
(I wonder if one can overdo these “helpers” – what do people think?)
My troughs of alpines are doing fine as always.
The camassia has grown a lot with 8 heads of blooms this year.
The azalea has done well
The choisya sternata is doing well, apart from the top which was affected by the snow.
I grew these lime green aquilegias from seed – the leaf colour is quite eye catching.
The rhododendron has done well
My auriculas did well in a cold greenhouse this winter.
The lychnis also survived well and is spreading like mad.
The spirea is lovely at this time.
This lupin is about four years old
And finally my poppy is back but still with only one flower!
The warm spring has of course helped the gardens to really get going and the cold dark days of last winter are fading in our memories….lets hope for a few years?

Despite your losses your garden really does look lovely. The Aquilegia looks like `Purple Emperor`. :o)

You have lots of colour in the garden, despite the losses from that awful Winter. I use Blood, Fish and Bone, when I remember, but that's about all!

Everything is looking very lush...and despite losing some of your plants with our bad winter, you've obviously got the combination right with all your TLC.
Lovely photos :)
