Dyffryn House and Gardens

Hi everyone,
I visited the above yesterday; its near Cardiff, now belongs to the National Trust and is well worth a visit. (Free to RHS members too)
I will download some pics:
This is the front of the house, a grand Edwardian mansion developed by the Cory family approx. 100 years ago.

The rockery

The superb gardens were designed by the famous landscape gardener, Thomas Mawson and the horticulturist Reginald Cory who collected many of the plants from all over the world.
The house itself is also very interesting; it is currently being refurbished but there is much to see and learn from the knowledgeable volunteers! Well worth a visit!

There is so much to see – a wonderful extended lawn to the south of the house, and themed garden rooms (later copied at Hidcote and Sissinghurst) There are many different areas to see and also superb glasshouses which have recently been rebuilt and re-stocked.

A “Hankerchief Tree”

I attach some pics of the various “garden rooms”

I am sure there will be much to see here right through the year, but particularly when the herbaceous borders are at their best.

Ah yes ... Dyffryn House :o) I haven't been there for years. We'll have to try and make a visit this year.
I remember that man on the back of the ox ...

I love the iris border. I wonder what takes it's place when the irises are over - probably with all that space to go at you just move on to somewhere else! That's an impressive collection of heucheras and the shot of the park is very tempting. You didn't mention the obligatory cakes and coffee - did you find some?

Looks lovely, I was particularly interested in the aeoniums, and the iris border is stunning.
