Week in Northumberland

We (myself, wife and son) had a nice holiday in Northumberland last week and stayed in a friend’s cottage that she hires out. I ‘met’ my friend on another gardening site and it was so nice to be able to meet face to face after exchanging gardening tips , ideas and chats for over a year. I took some photos of the surrounding areas while we were there and thought I would like to share a few of them with you all. We looked around Alnwick gardens also which was lovely:-

Thank you Sixpence- I think the water lily was a white honeysuckle but I admit it does look like a lily ;-)

They say it's the most tranquil part of England, it certainly is a beautiful County. I keep promising myself I'll holiday there....one day.

That water feature is quite wonderful. I also like the topiary.

We have been there twice now Heron the scenery is very picturesque.

Yes plenty of ideas Cristina I wouldn't fancy having all those poisonous plants that were in the poison garden though. There was a right deadly mixture in there! ;-)
I only knew what it was as there was a label on it Sixpence ;-)

So pleased to enjoyed your visit to Northumberland. Glad you liked The Alnwick Garden....wish I'd known you were visiting...I could have met up with you and shown you round. The Roots and Shoots garden where the local schoolchildren have their plots is now open to the public and you can look in the huge polytunnels where I sometimes work, as a gardening volunteer.

Oh thanks for that Amblealice it would have been nice to have met up. I didn't know that you were from that area. I didn't see everything that was at the gardens as I am still not fully mobile (having broken my femur 6 weeks ago). What we did see though we all enjoyed.

Hi Richard, lovely blog and photos. This is a part of the country that I would really like to explore more of. The castle looks wonderful. I visited Alnwick gardens last summer and it was really lovely....although busy! glad you had a lovely time in spite of the injury! :))

Thanks Karen I can get around slowly now with one or two crutches (depends if I need to carry anything -then one crutch!). We have been to Edinburgh for a holiday before and Glasgow for a college friends reunion. I have also had a tour of some Scottish lochs in the 1980's when I did some work on siphons-very picturesque too ;-)

San.....the tunnel is covered with ivy....its quite creepy walking through it....which is the whole idea of course...lol. The only downside is if it has been raining....you get drips down your neck. I remember last year helping to trim it and it was yes....pouring with rain.....we got a good soaking.....!!!
