As the weather was a bit cloudy today, thought I’d bring a little colour into the house today with this small selection of what I could find that was flowering in the garden.

Lovely!! I'm a firm believer in bringing cut flowers into the house Richard...might as well enjoy them while they last, lol

That's really pretty! I like to always have fresh flowers in the house, maybe now i wont have to buy them!

Yes its great when you can just go into the garden and collect flowers for bringing in the house (and veg) but I suppose a cabbage wouldn't quite look the same in a vase somehow lol !

You never know! ornamental cabbages are lovely!

OOO I'd forgotten about the ornamental ones Marie! yes they come in many colours. My cabbages this year are well ventilated there are lots of holes in the leaves!

Doesn't it add to the lacey effect?

yes indeed it does lol.I have taken all my cabbages out today Marie as they have all been devastated by slugs, snails and catterpillars- the little blighters Lol !

Yes, lovely vase of Crocosmia, Richard! I'm not much of a fan of cutting my flowers to bring into the house, they last longer & look better on the plants on my balcony!
Just the other day I brought in a white Gladiolus that had broken with the wind. That's about the extent of flower cutting I ever do!

Thanks Balcony for your comments. I have never grown Gladioli before- must give it a try.

Do give them a go, only remember they are not really hardy. They should be lifted at the end of autumn & then dried of & kept in a cool but frost free place. They especially hate the damp & cold. Mine survive alright outside but they aren't in wet ground.
If you can grow Crocosmia you can grow Gladiolus.

Thanks Balcony I will definately give them a try.
