This is what I used to do before Goy...

I just thought I would show you what I did in my little bit of spare time before I found this brilliant site.It was my main hobby in the winter, but have a feeling that I won’t be doing as many (or any at all !) now.

I don’t think the picture is as clear as it could be. This I sketched in Constable country years ago .I took the photo of it after I had sketched it and then painted it when I got home.

This one I actually copied from a calender and painted it and framed it to give to my friend.

This one I did sat in the little summerhouse quite a few years ago of the small garden at the side of the house. The garden has changed quite alot since then.

These two are both copied from calenders ,I sketch them and then paint them. I love to paint any scenery picture ,especially water, but if you asked me to put a duck in the water ,I’d say ,not a chance , absolutely hopeless at doing wildlife or people! Hope you enjoyed looking at them. This was something to do on another wet day.

Hi Rose, your paintings are really lovely, I used to do water colours a few years ago when I was in Cornwall, I also have tried oils, like you I used to copy from pictures, postcards etc, its a very good hobby, but winter months I found that the light was no good having to paint indoors. You should keep up with your paintings, they are so good.

26 Aug, 2011

lol :o))))

oliveoil I have a sign in my garden which my friend gave me that says " God made rainy days so that gardeners could get the housework done " so true lol :o))

26 Aug, 2011

Hi Rose, I am a portrait painter, my father, a keen gardener and amateur painter used to photograph his favourite scenes in the summer and spend the winter painting them. I thought this was a great combination.
You must not give up!!!!!

26 Aug, 2011

Helen that is so true:o) but the only problem I have is I came on line and sat and nattered all day - I did make a cake and some scones for cricket teas tomorrow but not done much else today. Certainly no housework unless cooking tea counts as housework. lol.

26 Aug, 2011

housework will always be waiting the next day whether you did it today or not!!!
i prefer something more creative!!

Lovely paintings, I really like the third one, I`m useless at anything like that, haven`t the skill or the patience, my daughter-in-law is very good and also copies from photo`s or cards.

oliveoil, what was the cake like?????? Life's too short for hovering, dusting save that until the spring and do a 'Mole' (Wind in the Willows)

Go out into the garden, blog with your friends and enjoy your cake. PAINT.

In between rain showers and planting herbs. I've spent most of the day reading old 'Gardeners World' & other gardening mags & books.

I'm sure you and I are like many ladies on this site, have work hard, raised children, (who have now flown the nest) supported OH and their footie, cricket rugby teams. Time for a little you and me time, I think?

There's always the winter for household duties.

Busy do noth'in busy the whole day through,
trying to find lots of things not to do la la la.la la la la la.

Sent you a p m Grannyb earlier, thank you the cake was absolutely delicious.

I agree with all your comments too, I have been busy on here on and off for most of the day, had fun reading comments and putting on blog, just enjoyed the rain so much after all the dry we have had, it has just about stopped now though. Think we shall get cricket played tomorrow too. O H is the groundsman on the field where we play and he said he thinks it will have soaked up all the rain to let us get the game in if it doesn't rain any more tonight that is.

I love my cricket and will miss going to the pub on Sat. night if it is off. lol.

Hope you have a good weekend. Thanks again for the cake recipe.

Wow Rose they are really good. So much better than I could ever manager. I used to draw occasionally, the odd scenery image but mostly animals. Once painted a giraffe on my little brothers bedroom wall. Can't say I'm that good though. My uncle and cousin got the creative genes. Hope you find time to start painting again. Love the first picture.

Dot welcome to GoY.

Lol Helen love the sign, but Olive is right. In the house I come to have a mooch round GoY lol. Really must have a tidy up later :S

OOps sorry Rose got my oliveoil & rose's mixed up, but comments refer to both. And that's before the wine.

Ooh Rose my wee buddy, I hadn't seen this! They're very good pet! You must make time to do more, they really do look as though you enjoyed painting them. You have some lovely photos of your beautiful garden that you have posted on here, what about planning a new painting around one of those? I love the third one down and the last one, especially! You have to keep painting Rose, and make the most of that wonderful talent!! They're great!

26 Aug, 2011

I love all your paintings Rose, it's hard to choose a favourite but i do especially like the last one. What a shame if you don't carry on with it but how the time goes by so fast on GoY! So hard to fit in all the things we want to do.

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Ah Rose, I am so glad you posted these!!! Love them! As suggested above by many, you must continue this. I plan on trying to capture a number of my favourites over the winter months. Very much enjoyed seeing your work!

Your paintings are brilliant. I loved them. I hope you don't stop. You'll have to tear yourself away from GoY sometimes lol.

Check it out.
But do find time to paint, u never know they could be worth millionssssss in years to come. :-)

27 Aug, 2011

They are lovely paintings. They look so proffessional. You could sell your artwork and make quite a bit of money with that hobby.
