Seedlings

Hi all this is my first attempt at growing Plumerias I was delighted when 8 out of 11 germinated, it was Alexandra who put me on to them whilst holidaying in Corfu. I was so envious of hers but there was no way I was going to get a cutting of hers ( she had eyes in the back of her head ) , so I came home and quickly got on e-bay and ordered some. I hope Delonix1 doesn’t see these because he’s probably never seen any this small !!

Thank-you Terratoonie I saw Alexandra's when they were 2-3 years old and as plants they were something special that was before they flowered, they were just budding at the time. I'm sure she will be on here soon showing me the flowers (I hope ) and turning me green.

Thank-you Jane they are really beautiful flowers, but I think they take about 3 years before they do. I'm hoping I can put them out in the garden in the summer but I'll have to bring them in winter time.

Thank-you Hywel better result than I expected, I would have been happy if 1 germinated.

I have 2 seedlings that are now 6'' tall in the bathroom. Were out all summer in the garden. Have about 4-6 leaves and a thick stem already, I germinated the seeds back in Feb/March. I tend to call them Frangipani but most people call them Plumeria. I think it takes 2-3 years for flowers.

Glad to hear about your Plumerias Kildermorie, yes I bought them as Plumeria Frangipani I didn't know it meant the same, so all being well mine can go out into the garden next summer.

Well, I've seen them. LOL! :>)
They look excellent! One little word of wisdom: be careful with the watering during winter. They need to be kept on the dry side when it's cooler. Cold wet soil is lethal to plumerias.
I usually grow plumerias from cuttings. They come true-to-type that way. Seedlings are a gamble because they may not have to same color flower as the parent tree. It makes it interesting, though (but it takes 2 - 4 years to flower).

Thank-you Delonix1 I'll take that on board, hope you were'nt too disappointed Roy.

They have to start from somewhere. (especially since you don't have large trees there, in the ground).

Enjoyed your blog Roy.
I will post a pic of my seedlings before I give them away as x-mas gifts.
Roy, my big Plumeria's don't look like anything special now. They still have flower buds but only a few leaves left.

Alexandramou:
It's normal for the leaves to fall off this time of year. Most of my Plumerias are starting to loose their leaves, also.
