Fife Flower Show - Part 1 - The Childrens Sections

I have had a very busy day today. OH and I set off early this am, in pretty grim weather, to take a prearranged boat trip to Inchcolm Island in the Firth of Forth.
When we came back we dashed over to Dunfermline to view the Fife Flower Show. Here are some of the Prize winners in the childrens section. The entries were down in the childrens sections this year but given the awful summer we have had those who did enter exhibits did not disappoint.
The first photo is of a Pallet entered by the Dunfermline branch of Riding for the Disabled.

Next are the entries for two different age groups. Their own interpretations of animals made from vegetables.

Can I make a plea here to all of you, if you have a local show, please support it. Organisers are getting older and people who once did exhibit now feel it is too much work for them, to set up exhibits etc. The local shows are dying out not from a lack of exhibitors or from a lack of quality but just from not having enough bodies available to ensure the smooth running of the show. For the Fifers planning for next years show will be on going, even as they write a review of who won what for the local paper. Today two ladies received gifts of beautiful bouquets. The lady who handed out the prizes and the other to a lady who for many years has provided tea and sandwiches for the helpers as they work setting up the show. She has been so quietly efficient that the Committee thought it was time her devotion to the show should be recognised.

Nice to see the children's efforts, and that they are taking an interest.
I'm glad those two ladies were shown some appreciation.

Thank you Hywel. I would give the organisers of the show a medal for encouraging the children and also for landing a prime site for their show. It was held in Dobbies Garden Centre in the huge hall normally used to display plants. Well done them for supporting the Community in this way.
Have you seen the fuchsia in Helen60garden latest blog. Its a very old shrub.

I fully support Scotsgran's plea and recognise the second statement!!!! So many people like the 'idea' of a flower show and like to see nice plants - but then do nothing.

Scottish wait till you see the begonias and Dahlias, not what I grow but we can all dream. That will be part 3 at least. Then the veg. Easy to see where the heart is in Fife. They say it takes a long spoon to sup wi a Fifer but what they serve up looks delicious. lol. Thanks Bb I appreciate you backing me up on this. 'Many hands make light work' is so true.
