Shooting round the garden at the end of February

I did a quick photo shoot of the garden in between snow showers yesterday. The Iris reticulata in pots near the front door are so cheerful.
snowdrops are building up again
the helleborus is a good contrast to other flowers around it. It is much darker than in the photo
Shrubs like the viburnum flower for a long time
The daffodils are starting to show promise
The winter flowering rockery is my favourite part of the garden
I nipped in to the greenhouse to see this hepatica. I need to get bags over those seeds if I want to save them.
Cyclamen Tile Barn Elizabeth only has one flower I need to replant it somewhere.
A pot of Iris Katharine Hodgkin has survived from last year and is looking good.
I am not sure if it is different light conditions or a different brand of SDcard but this is a better photo of the P. sibbthorpii
Under the shrubbery the pulsatilla is flowering its head off in the shady shelter
A burst of sunlight from this orange/peach primula
I’m looking forward to seeing what March and April will make of these pots of mainly daffodils.

Hywel as you might have spotted from the photos a lot of my plants are sheltered above by trees or shrubs which they seem to enjoy. The daffodils in pots are on shelves placed in the unused back doorway to the garage. It is east facing but gets some morning sun which even at this time of year heats the stones and helps keep them warm. We should not wish our lives away but it will be nice to see some better weather.

I was out in the garden for a while today but it was really cold. I get so fed up just looking at the garden. I am going to plant some seeds on Sunday. I like your early Irises Scotsgran.....blue is lovely in the garden. Like you I am still waiting for the first Daffodil.

I went out to try and tidy up some of the plants which should have been seen to in the autumn but I was soon driven in again by the cold. The gritters were out again this afternoon so I expect the ground will still be frozen tomorrow. I did want to plant those iris in the raised bed to broaden the river I planted last year but was not sure what I would get from the bargain bags of mixed retic iris. I hope to replant them when the flowers die back.

Well today is Sunday.....very cold but ok between hail storms. I planted my tomato seeds and cut a bit off one side of a large Rhodie. What gets me is my son facetimed me today from London and he was wearing a short sleeved shirt. It was warm and sunny.

Well done. Was the rhodie damaged? I have one which I cut back on one side two years ago. It flowered beautifully last year but I will cut the other side back after flowering this year as it could grow to 20' which I do not want. Your son is lucky. I suppose living in the city is always warmer than the rural areas and of course he is young so won't feel the cold as much as our older members do. We had warm and sunny for an hour or so recently lol.

It was damaged by a falling fir tree. I was trying to improve the shape Scotsgran.
Both my sons are in London. Thy spend half their time in shorts. They won't return to Glasgow and so much rain.

What a pity to lose a tree and damage a shrub. I think if this cold wet weather continues I'll be emigrating to London too.

Thank you Linclass. I love being out in the fresh air. I dropped OH off at the Park and Ride near Edinburgh Airport today and had 3 hours to fill before I had to return for him. I nipped up to Binny Plants and got a Narcissus 'Spoirot'.

Your garden seems to be doing well even in the very cold weather. Nice to see signs of spring :o)
