I bought an iris with this label from the members stand at a show.

I could not find anything on the ’net that seemed appropriate so I had to wait and see it flower before I was able to ID it. I have typed the name so I remember what it is. I love it. My computer now talks to me and this is Iris tee mo feeg (g as in George) wee eye

that is so true when people go by phonetic spelling.

it is a lovely iris .

we had a well known speaker at our hps group a few years ago [cant remember who now!] who had an Acer he'd grown from seed, that had the species identified but he'd written 'no name' as he hadn't named the variant.

A few years later he saw it for sale as Kno-narmee !

we often get plants label as ''mum's..... this or that'' as that is where they got the plant from originally.
My avatar is New Dawn taken from a cutting in my mum's garden when she died. But to the family its 'our mum's rose' [brothers] 'Nana's rose' to my daughters and 'Olive's rose' to my OH.

no wonder id'ing things is a nightmare haha.

Thank you Sbg I am very pleased with it. My mum and now my siblings do the same often naming plants for the person who gave it to us.

Is it easy from seed and how long before it flowers? I think a group of these would look stunning.

I sowed 6 seeds in Jan 16 and got 100% germination. They are now in single pots, though 3 have disapeared.the other 3 are growing well.I would guess anothr couple of years to see a flower.

They will be well worth waiting for. I do not know if the will be too late for your shows. I only got one as that was all that was there.

from what I' ve read, Scotsgran. You are the proud protector of an endangered specie. Timofeev's iris is from a small area in Russia (Dagestan) The site I found is very stickly about "Terms of Use"... so if you give it a google, you'll find It's interesting reading.

Lovely colour :)

Lori that is very interesting. Over grazing seems to be one of the worst offenders when it comes to loss of species. I will try and keep it safe. Pcw is doing his best too.
Thank you Hywel. I do feel privileged to be able to buy gems like these because of the generosity of gardeners sharing their spare plants to help provide financial help in support of the SRGC.
