Thank you. I was looking for a cheap alternative for my granddaughter and her fellow preschoolers to use. I would have used a clear plastic milk bottle but we don't have them, then the children could see the roots grow too. I am all for recycling. I have cut off the top half to use the bottom as a pot in the past and I have also cut the bottom off lemonade bottles to protect seedlings outside so this was just a natural progression. We go through a litre of milk a day so its cheap and easy. I put a circle of oasis half an inch thick on the bottom to retain water and there are no holes in the bottom but they will be being planted out soon.

Brilliant idea, I`ve planted my fuchsia in pots outdoors and have cut the bottoms of large lemonade bottles with which to cover them, I have been able to remove them when we have had brief periods of sunshine.

Thank you all. I am all for recycling. Seeds and compost costs are escalating quicker than our income.

Brilliant! I work at a children's centre and just ran a gardening session for parents and children and used 2 litre and 500 mil fizzy drink bottles the same way. Once the top half is put back on, they're wonderful propogators.
