DIY Hanging Basket Stands

Hi The OH wanted hanging basket stand I had a look online and thought they were a bit expensive so I decided to build them myself, and here is the result not bad I think! I ended up building two for less than £70 that’s including everything from baskets to post cement paint etc: posts are 8ft 3"-3" 2ft cemented into the ground.

They are superb, better than the bought ones and will probably last longer. Just proves that with a bit of ingenuity and a lot of skill you can make just about anything. I always fancied one of the hanging basket stands, but like you thought they were expensive! Look forward to the display later.

Thanks Honeysuckle it's the planting that I will struggle with so if anyone has any ideas they would be highly appreciated. especially a couple of nice colourful hardy Fuchsias I've seen some on here that are very nice and the Mrs loves them, So any nice trailing colourful long flowering plant really :)

Great job and so much stronger than shop bought ones!

Thanks Karen I thought some of the shop ones looked a little flimsy to be honest, I'm quite pleased with them and the Mrs loves them so it's a win win :)

My respect for Goyers just goes on growing - brilliant job.

Brilliant solution Scotsmanvic. I had the same mindset creating an address plaque for my house using scrap wood and spare paint I had in my basement. Yey, I got to use my power tools again!

love them...bet you can't wait to get the baskets up now...:-)

Thanks Steragram I'm quite pleased with them, it's always a good day to find an excuse to use power tools Bathgate lol and yes Sandra just need to find out what flowers to pick :)

What a clever man you are, Vic! They look so professional and serve a dual purpose. Bacopa are pretty flowers but I think the best are the training petunias. Mix them with whatever colour fuchsias your OH half likes and pack them in.
Then send some pix so that we can see what you've done.

Hi Arbuthnot I like the way they turned out and ill look up the plants thanks for the advice, HB I really liked the final look with the finial wouldn't have looked half as nice without it and black just seems to disappear into the background I think.

Oh how posh are you Vic, I'm mega impressed with them and as said they can be dual purpose and unlike some feeders won't get blown about in the gales we have been experiencing lately.
I 'll look forward to see your baskets when they are done, I always think trailing Begonias look good as well as being very colourful...

lol Lass ill be including Begonias, I'm not great with container planting I was thinking since there will be 8 baskets it would probably be better to use one type of plant in at least 4 of the baskets and then mix the others up a little. from what I've read I should wait until end of may before putting them out in my area.

One type of plant in some of the baskets is a good idea, Scotsman . . . and if you want long-flowering, then have a look at trailing Verbena. They come in white, purple and pink, and go on flowering ALL summer!

Thanks Sheila I've looked it up ill add it to my list thanks gain :)

scotsmanvic : Looks good. Should last a lifetime. Much more stable than some of the garden centre ones I have seen.
