A disappointment

I have been two minutes on the site, and already need to get off it, The pastel colours (?) and font size are doing something to my eyes. I had looked forward to seeing the new site and am not usually one to complain, but I doubt if I’ll be able to stay on the site for any length of time as I have in the past. Sorry, but it’s a thumbs down for me. :((

p.s. I know it's a bit late now to let you know, but I always thought the GOY site was one of the best designed I had ever come across.

It's a shame, isn't it :-/

I have already voiced an opinion on Payag's blog, used the "contact us" button, and still feel I need to say more.
Anaemic colours is just the start of it, as I now have to remove my glasses so that the print appears smaller!!!
But, the whole jist of my slant is really one of motivation. This drab approach is not inviting me in to share the joys of gardening with happy people. In fact, the opposite, informing me that the membership are boring, depressed folk, who will moan and grumble, and rejoice in overcast barometric pressure drops until the headache forces one to log off!!!
And why on earth do we have to push all these *loody buttons to find how to log out of the site - that gave me another headache too!!!
As far as I am concerned, the more you try to be like other people, the less noticable you become.
Stand apart, bright and bold, and herald the joys of those who you wish to attract - just like our plants do!!!

I agree Silverbell, I suffer from migrain and can feel one coming after 10 mins of being on here :-((

i agree to ..with the colours & cant look at the screen for long. it is giving me a headache also.i didnt think there was anything wrong with it before

I can't see what all the fuss is about, though I have to say I found nothing wrong with the old format. I'm more interested in what folk say not what colour the paper is. I do find the type size just a little to big but have you tried reading stuff on Twitter/Facebook?

14 Oct, 2010

I had to go away after a short while, too, as my eyes were hurting and I was getting a headache. Please let's have a pastel background to our comments, at least!

14 Oct, 2010

I'm not getting a headache but I do find the larger font makes me think I AM BEING SHOUTED OUT ALL THE TIME :(

14 Oct, 2010

Yes Heron, I too am more interested in what folk say than the colour of the paper. It's just difficult to absorb the information if the writing is fuzzing while you're trying to read it. Like you, Annella, I get migraines though not very often. I've been on the site, this visit, long enough to read the comments on Payags blog and my own and can feel a headache coming on already.
Honestly, I'm not a person who moans just for the sake of it, I just would be so very disappointed if I had to change the way I use this site as it's the best I've come across.

I think the lack of new blog's this morning say's it all

14 Oct, 2010

Mavis, the lack of new blogs this morning could well be due to folk meandering through the revamped site to find their feet.

I'd hope that we'd all give Peter and Ajay a few days to listen to our concerns and to tweak the site before we get too wound up about the changes.

Early days....

I agree with your comments Whistonlass, " Rome wasn't built in a day....! "

14 Oct, 2010

Totally agree Tiger1234, that is if you accept that Rome is trying to be built.
Personally, I think it looks like DAGENHAM!!!

14 Oct, 2010

I have another problem - with a blog I started last night. I went back to it, and can't get the photos to show as pics on a preview - only as writing. I've sent a message to Ajay, as I don't really want to have to start all over again!

Maybe other members are having the same trouble?

14 Oct, 2010

OOH ER!!!! I get the impression that you really don't like the new format at all jasonf!!

14 Oct, 2010

I am better with the new site since I adjusted my screen brightness, it is much less 'hit you in the face' and not affecting my eyes as much as it did earlier on this morning, still think that the white background with the large print is too much, a tad smaller would have been better with a colour rather than the white background. I have found it ok to manouevre around and posted pictures and everything seems ok there, still very slow typing up on the page about the new web site everywhere else seems ok now.

14 Oct, 2010

I don't mind the new format, although I thought the old one was nicer. But this icy blue is so depressing.

14 Oct, 2010

Yes Whistonlass it might be early day's but it will be the end of day' for me if it stays this bright,as I have partial sight this glare is no good for me.

14 Oct, 2010

Mavis...have you sent a pm to Peter and Ajay? I do think it will help for them to get our messages personally and I am sorry that the brightness of the site is difficult for you. I have no sight difficulties but I'm finding it a bit too glarey for me too. x

Tiger1234 - I live my life trying to be "better than I was yesterday" and always aspire to improve what I do for the betterment of others. Do I see this with this site? No, not at all. Somewhere, people have decided that "this is what we need to do" and "these are our options to acheive these results".
Were the membership consulted? No.
Do I see that the site has moved forward? Partially.
Do I see that the site has moved backward? Definately.
On balance, is it better? No.
So, to answer your question, I do not like the new format at all.

14 Oct, 2010

jasonf, sorry it wasn't a question, merely an observation!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, Lol!

14 Oct, 2010

Thank's Whistonlass, looking at all the comments on Ajays blog I think they will know how everyone feel's.As I said on that blog sunglasses might be an option!

14 Oct, 2010

The problem with wearing sunglasses on top of my verifocals is it puts my vision out of kilter...never happy....sorry! lol I am glad it is a help to you though Mavis...you desperately needed a solution for your eyes and it looks like you've cracked that problem. Yeah :)

14 Oct, 2010

Can you just imagine Whistonlass a happy group of G.o.Y.ers sitting at their computers with sunglasses on in the middle of winter....mind boggling!

14 Oct, 2010

I am with Heron on this one, I shall be glad when all the fuss has died down, there is nothing wrong with it, well not on my computer no glare, no bright white, and a nice pretty shade of blue, and the size of the text is perfect. end of!!

16 Oct, 2010
