Seen in Daughter's garden. What is it?

Grand-daughter Harriet spotted this little beauty and was fortunate to get these lovely photos.
I find it hard to believe they exist in an English garden as it looks so exotic, doesn’t it? She felt so excited and happy to get these shots.
We think it looks like a little bird (clue).
Poking its proboscis in! Greedy little fellow.
It makes my contribution look very poor!
A bedraggled early bee, wasp (?) Out of focus – just like me. It was on the fence so may be a Giant wood wasp. Then again, it looks like a Gooseberry or Rose sawfly because of its yellow body. However, I don’t know about these things – that’s why it’s up to you…………….please!
Just saw this pic which is better than above. Took them 09 04 2010.

They are wonderful moths - we had one here a few years ago, in a year when we actually had a summer! LOL. I keep hoping to spot another one this year. You were lucky! :-))

What great photos Lyn, congratulations to who-ever took them.
I can't help with the ID of it although I did think "Hawks wing" moth on the first photo. I bet I'm wrong and some one will tell us what it really is! Lol
