On the 5 th June, we visited Bressingham Gardens and Steam, something for us both to see to indulge our different interests.

You can see some of the gardens from the steam train, or walk around the grounds, which are extensive.

An edging of Ophiopogon planiscapus “nigrescens”. I have this, edging my pond, it’s just a matter of scale!

The house

The grounds

Innovators of the island bed, which can be viewed from all sides,

You end up walking 3 or 4 times the distance to view individual plants.

All beautifully labelled, as this Clematis used as a scrambler in one of the borders.

Extensive clumps,

Beautifully grown , Roscoea cautleoides

Roscoea humeana

I particularly liked their combinations of plants of different leaf colours and textures to create an interesting picture, as these following photos show.

A purple leaved Heuchera with a blue Festuca grass, easily recreated in ones own garden, on a smaller scale.

Trees

Grasses with perennials

Conifer cones and spikes of foxgloves

On the grand scale!

A young flower Paeony Bowl of Beauty

A more mature flower

Bees

Bees a buzzing

Another Paeony

Tree of the day Cornus

Groomed lawns in Adrian Blooms Foggy Bottom garden

A wild life pond between the main garden and Adrian Blooms Foggy Bottom garden

Then it’s back to the car with weary feet, and plenty of ideas, if only one had the space!

What a lovely place to visit - oh, that's what Olive just said! But it sums it up so well. Doesn't it make a differenc when yu have room for mass plantings?

Thanks everyone, it was a really enjoyable mini break. The attached garden centre was unfortunately just like any other, same plants, same prices. But I did buy the day before at Woottens nursery. I think I am spoilt here as we have Hardys nursery, also Hilliers Gardens not far away.

Looking thro' catalogues saves the feet! And you can dream.
Never to late to go on a virtual tour. I still have not blogged our day out in May, to Exbury, the Rothchilds' rhodo place.

I have a hosta, Bressingham Blue...and it's the most wonderful hosta I have. (I have a few)...It is huge leafed with pretty white flowers. I just love it. Next spring I'll be able to divide it...I have lots of places for it's daughters.
This is a wonderful garden and your blog has given me lots to think about. There is plenty of room here to fill up and I"ve only just started. Particularly loved the combo of grasses with perennials...also the colour combo of festuca glauca and red heuchera. Very inspiring..

Thanks Lori, I was truly impressed by Bressingham, unfortunately don't have much space, so would have to down size my aspirations.

My garden here is only 3-1/2 years old...for accuracy maybe only 3 years as we moved in Dec.31st. ...I had a small garden (front and back) at our place in the city...but when spring arrived here I was a little overwhelmed by the scale of the place. (about 4 acres of cleared land and four of forest). Had to learn the soil...the wind patterns...the sunny spots and the dreary ones...my perennials are only just starting to acclimate. Looking at your pics of the Bressingham stream planting gave me lots to think/dream about as I have two streams and a forest. I'm not getting any younger or more energetic and that means that I too have to down size my aspirations!

Bressingham has an army of gardeners. I think I would be overwhelmed by the size of your garden. The only advice I would give you is "pace yourself". This is based on ,do as I say not as I do.
