A Day in the Life of....

This morning while dead-heading my favourite rose – ‘Prima Ballerina’ I saw this beautifully shaped bud. I know I’ve taken photos of her before, but I just decided to watch her over the course of one day.
I cut back the Everlasting peas and did some weeding – in between heavy showers!
By lunch time, she had opened into the shape that I think is so perfect.
I worked on ‘her’ flower bed this afternoon, tidying and pulling out dead Nigella stalks and dead-heading the Centaurea montana. When it was time to come in to prepare our evening meal, I took her photo again. She was full out by then.
Tomorrow she will be past it – or even, if the wind keeps up, just a flurry of pink petals in the flower bed. But I enjoyed watching her, all the same. Didn’t she do well on her one day of fame!

Only a slight one, sadly. But she does make up for this lack with her beauty, doesn't she!

Isn't she lovely
Isn't she wonderfull
Isn't she precious
Less than one minute old
I never thought through love we'd be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn't she lovely made from love

It's wonderful to watch roses unfold and this is a super one. It's sad that many of them only last a day.

I can see why she is your favourite, Spritz. Beautiful, and what a lovely idea to photograph each step of her unfolding.

I'm not at all a rose fan, but, Spritz, this amazes me! It shows just how plants are as clever and alive as we claim to be. Wonderful "singing", Lorrainenagle - proves that gardens and plants can inspire great songs, as well as link to so many other interesting topics/areas.
