Evolving Cloudforest.

Somehow without planning it,I have a virtual Andean cloudforest of shrubs on the side of my home. Sun early, then shade by the house since its only about 6’ wide at most.
Iochroma,Wigandia and Brugmansia are large shrubs. Then today I added Cherimoya..a delicious subtropical fruit. It requires cool nights in summer. These I grew from seed.
Now that I’m writing, I also have Monstera and Piper auritum aka “Rootbeer” plant. Both can take cool summers and nights
Heck even a Hydrangea is doing its best to get going. I planted it too close to the tree like Brugmansia’s. Still,it wont die..it actually seems to be getting deeper roots.
One problem? It all has to hand watered..and by late August it seems like the shrubs get a bit worn by the long warm and dry summer. Although Iochroma has gotten better as its gotten older. Wigandia IS drought tolerant…The Brugs (Yellow and pink) are not..but hang in there.
So as I took photos the other day,I realized how much they had all grown, and how they grow into each other just fine. I don’t prune anything but dead branches.
Rain today and manana..Sunday some pics to add to the blog.
Thanks for reading!
Here’s from today- in light rains.
