It’s been a month since I returned to work in the nursery. Lots of things have been happening wile I was away. At the moment we are just finishing sending out the last of the potted Dahlia orders. Their was a major catastrophe early in the year over seven and a half thousand rooted cuttings were lost in one night due to the failure of the greenhouse gas heater giving up so we had to start again. New hot beds were installed and at the moment we are three weeks behind schedule and catching up fast.
Last week I began the task of cleaning the perennial and shrub beds weeding top dressing and fertilizing all the plants. The nursery is situated out in the countryside we are surrounded by farms and have a great abundance of wildlife
In August the Dahlia Field is opened to the public so everywhere has to be in tip top condition We have a large field with over 300 different varieties of Dahlias Nick the man who owns the nursery is obsessed with Dahlias and it’s starting to rub off on to me!
We have also been visited by Gardeners World Magazine and there is going to be an article about Dahlias in the August edition our Dahlias….Look out for that!
Nobody escapes our passion for plants at the nursery we have a gardening club for children run by one of the local ladies. They have great fun on a Saturday morning they grow fruit veg and flowers and learn about recycling and the environment, It’s the next generation of GoYers!!!
I will add photo’s of Dahlias in a day or so !
