VISIT TO CROMER & FELBRIGG HALL

Well the holiday didnt get off to a very good start for when we reached Thame (we took the scenic route) the brakes went spongy, so I pulled into services and phoned RAC. The office staff were rubbish, sent the chap to the wrong place but when he did turn up he was brilliant!
Enough to say he towed us to a garage (he had to come back for me cos could only take two people at a time and there were 3 of us).
Couldnt visit Ely on the way up as planned cos too late so we had our first day out on Saturday.
Cromer – didnt stay long, we arent sea-sidey people lol!

Felbrigg Hall & Gardens

These chickens had been rescued from battery farms. This little lady could hardly walk where presumably she had spent most of her life sitting and laying eggs! She sort of hobbled along.

They certainly had a handsome cockerel!

The chooks were allowed to wander anywhere in the gardens they wanted.

A novel way to hang up your hammers!!

Usually they put a teasel or a sprig of holly to stop you sitting down…this was a bit overkill!!

We visited a lot more gardens during the week, but will stagger the blogs cos there were 3 more of them..at least!

She had another little session in Oxford on the way home, but has been okay apart from that. However, Im not happy so will take her to my little man down the road (we had 3 years servicing free until this July!) as the main dealer costs a bomb, and he is every bit as good.
We had a good week considering Sticki..the odd hour of rain on a couple of days, tho Tuesday was bad. We went to Norwich that day so we could take cover in between downpours..but we still got wet!

you did well considering we had a hurricane!!! and rain as if it was poured from a huge waterfall yesterday!!

its very good to have a little man down the road like that! there is a local garage a few yards up from here and he always checks the tyres for me and puts the air in for nothing.

Oh we werent away this week..we came back last Friday. Ive been growing on a lot of clematis and they really got hit for six in the winds.

how about your roses and your lilies?
lots of bits came off the trees around but other than that not too bad here.

Lovely blog Tet. Super photos, love the chooks, and the Hibiscus is fab.

i liked those chooks too ~ sorry, forgot to mention them.

We had similar weather to you, roses and daylilies fine, just the clematis being in tall pots, the wind kept blowing them over no matter where I put them.

The chooks were lovely Cinders; we had to be careful where we tread cos of the little chicks, but so sad to think they had been cooped up...bet they cant believe their luck now with acres to wander in!

Some lovely photos & yes, I loved the chickens & hens (& rooster) too. It is so sad that people treat living creatures so badly, but wonderful when you see them enjoying a good life after being rescued. Some beautiful gardens. I live in NZ, but I used to live in England & visited Ely a couple of times (we were in living in Suffolk at that time). So sad that you were not able to get there, as it's a lovely place & so full of history. Another time hopefully.

We have been having strong winds in our part of the world over the past two days too .... & the little flowering cherry we put in a couple of weeks ago, which was covered in beautiful pink blossom, is now sadly bare!

Thanks Dwyllis. We made it to New Zealand in 2007 and spent two weeks in South and North Island (not nearly enough!) If we couldnt live in UK then this would be our choice, despite you sitting on the Pacific Ring!! Loved it there and had been researching for a book and people were so helpful.
I dont know if you remember, but our blossom here is always hit or miss..this year was good with magnificent magnolias and cherry trees for the whole season! But most times the March/April winds have their wicked way.
Consolation my dear regarding Ely...what we didnt do on the way up..we did on the way back..so got there in the end...as you say, well worth it!

that looks beautiful, I did'nt know you was going away, glad you was rescued by the RAC, was he your knight in shining army, lovely blog/photo's and the chickens are lovely to see, saved and roaming about free.

I have a few shots of Wells Next The Sea Grandmage, where the colours of sand and sea and cloud shapes are beautiful..its seal coast around there but didnt see any..still should get away with nature & wildlife..
Got no pics of flowers in Ely Sticki but guess I might get away with it just this once..
I didnt ask if he was a Lord Yorkie, but he never joined the army. However he treated me just like the gentry I am lol! (I was going to say he bent over backwards..but knowing you, that was an unsafe comment LOL)

Lovely blog Tetra, glad you got the car sorted though, that could have been a right downer, those gardens are smashing and like you I also like to see the chooks wandering around looking happy and healthy, horrible when you think of them kept in those farm places whereby they can`t move.
Smashing photographs...

We had taken out insurance Lincslass, but its no consolation really. There's all the hassle of claiming, having to be towed back to Bristol, all our plans up the shute..glad we could go on..much better. Glad you enjoyed it too Karen.

lovely place to look round, and so pleased for those chucks.

17 Sep, 2011

It was lovely to see the little chicks running around. Thank goodness they wont suffer what the older chickens did Clarice!

Tell me about it, i love to see those poor cage bird getting their freedom, dont know why people still buy cagebird eggs, as there not even very nice.:((

17 Sep, 2011

True Crissue, as we found out while on holiday. Didnt realise the yolks were so...orange!
Im afraid I dont like any birds in a cage really, except budgies, even then I feel sad they will never taste freedom. But I must admit they do make amusing pets.
