You could be right Bjs - it was a present but the person giving me did not know it had 2 different colours so she could not have grafted. Perhaps she bought it this way. I didn't see any join when I looked in the summer but perhaps it's now below the compost line although it does appear to be confined to a section of the plant. Still nice though.

How unusual.....I think it's lovely. Definitely a conversation piece.
It could be you have a "sport".???

I think it is called a "SPORT" when a plant behaves in this manner. Google it, it is very interesting. One of my roses did that several years ago. Lovely hibiscus though.

I have a camellia that "sports" every year. Makes a good conversation piece though :-)

Further
The graft on my Hibiscus is not at ground level as they do roses but about 18in up the stem there are two grafts and the ctr stem removed I guess after the graft takes, so plenty of space for a new shoot below.
there seems to be more and more things grafted I think quicker and cheaper but not always the best as you constantly have to look for suckers and the leaves can be identical so a lot of strength is wasted in the plant before it becomes apparent..

It looks lovely so many flowers, I have now moved to a sunnier spot mine because it hardly flowered in three years

Thanks everyone - I've tried looking up Sporting etc but I'm not very good at the internet so haven't found yet. Will keep looking.

Thanks Doon - eventually found something on it. I don't mind if it is a "sport" - makes it more interesting. cheers

I know that some of the gardening mail order companies sell grafted Hibiscus with up to 3 different colours. My mother in law has a half standard one in a pot!
