BBC Gardeners World 'Carol Klein and Harry'

Sunday 20th, just got home from BBC Gardeners World.
I know you are all probably feed up with hearing about this show, but before you all switch off I thought I would share a pic off one happy little boy (not so little he’s now 12) and Carol Klein.

This is Harry, he’s my youngest and he likes gardening. A big fan of Dahlias he has a few, as well as growing sweet peas and writting lables he enjoys gardening, which is something I like to encourage.

The photo is a picture of Harry and Carol at the plant swap tent at the show. He wanted to take a plant so we had a chat and decided to take something a little different. He choose an Inula ‘Magnifica’.

This plant grows to about 5-6foot when planted and has fantastic yellow flowers and lots of them all several inches in size.

As well as taking the plant he also took a homemade card with a photo of this plant on the front. Inside last night he wrote a message to the gardeners world team explaining what the plant is and how tall it grows.

When we arrived at the show the first place he wanted to go was to the plant swap tent where he was lucky enought to find Carol just finishing a talk to the gathered crowd. He gave her the card and the plant.

What a women! she then had a long chat with him and took him behind the table full of avilable plants for swapping and put his plant on the table at the back, explaining to him that it was going to be kept and taken to Green Acres. She spoke with one of the staff on the stall to keep the plant back and not swap it.
Over the moon isnt the words for it. The only way it could have been better for him was if they offered him a job.

She was very good with him and asking him questions about the plant. Not being shy he was quick to explain that they had met before when we bumped into her and Joe Swift filming at RHS Wisely for Gardener of the Year a few years ago.

One happy boy.

Later on in the day he then made a bee line for Toby to say Hello.

I had fun I bought an Astrantia major ‘Little Snowstar’ and a Campanula ‘Pink Octopus’ I will try and take some pics over the next few days.

A great day out I would thoroughly reccomend it.

All gardeners are nice, it goes without saying but I think Carol Klein must be one of the most naturally friendly outgoing gardeners ever! So glad she gave your Harry a thrill he will always remember.

Totally agree about all gardeners are nice. My understanding is that everyone that likes flowers plants and animals are great people.
Harry wouldnt shut up on the way home. He is secretly hoping he might get a mention on the programme. I had to explain that they are off air for about four weeks.
I am quietly proud of him.

I`m so glad you had such a lovely time there and your son met Carol Klein, she seems such a nice lady who truly loves all gardeners.I love his choice of plant and how nice to have his own plant sent to Greenacre. I would be very happy if he did Rbtkew. He thinks I'm great doing my RHS level 2. I keep explaining to him that exams dont finish when you leave school.

He used to moan when we watched gardeners world but over the last year he has been more than happy to watch it. I hope he continues enjoying gardening as well.

That must have been a great meeting for him, it's so nice to see young people interested in gardening. I was lucky enough to meet Carol last year at her garden open day, she's a lovely lady
