My garden after a year.

As promised I am posting a few pictures of my garden. What you will see is what I have accomplished so far since moving here in Sept 2011.

Initally it was all lawn, with a clump of conifers that were obviously planted far to close to each other sometime in the 1970’s when they were small. There is also a nice mature weeping pear tree.

We had the chestnut fence installed as we have Bramble our border collie. Also there is the village pond beyond the beech hedge.

So you enter the garden via the gate (there is two) and along my brick path that was from reclaimed bricks. The tree on the left is an apple not sure of the variety but they do taste nice.

The next photo is of the little area I created the other week which is for my little boy Evan.

These next photos are of the brick paths. The first one is a lot of bricks I keep digging up, especially in the top right hand corner of the garden. This has a rose arch in the making. It came from the garden that I work in and is one section of seven. It was used as a training support for a hornbeam tunnel where I work.

At the end of the path you turn right to another brick path that takes you to my veg garden. This has a bed on the right which is planted up with day lilies and a row of roses by the path. The veg garden is work in progress as I have not managed to get my green house erected yet. It has some raised beds made out of roof tiles and is enclosed by a hazel hurdle fence.

The 3rd picture is of my other gate. This also takes you onto the drive and to the garage.

These two pictures are of my formal area. There are for box beds planted with a fruit tree in each. 2x apples, 1x pear and 1x plum. These beds in turn are planted up with orange and white tulips.
The box cones in the background alsocame from the garden I work in as they were no longer required.

Top picture is of the weeping pear with a tree seat and under planted with snowdrops, aconites, frittilaries and camassia. And two tiny lions that Evan likes stroking.

Second photo is of the beds as they curve around the top left corner of the garden. The bed right at the back is new and been sown with red, white and blue wild flower seeds. The swing seat is teak and you guessed it came from the garden I work in.

The third photo is of the patio that is work in progress. I positioned it in the tail end of last year, I am now awaiting a dry weekend before I start to lift it up and lay it properly. As you can see Bramble scarifies my lawn all through out the witer with his feet.

Last pic is of Evan and Bramble taken the other day with his new wheel barrow.

We have been here about 16 months, I only get evenings and weekends to do the garden. Thats when I’m not doing college work for my degree or having to go shopping arghhhh. Oh dont forget when it’s not pouring down as well.

I hope you like what I have achieved so far.

what a nice cottage and interesting garden you have. I like a garden with 'rooms' that lead you on to other areas.Having so much space you can plant all manner of things, especially to eat. Hard work of course, but you are young and can do it!
