Hip, hip Hooray!

While my OH has been receiving treatment for his cancers life in general has been put on hold, so to speak. I had been due to have a hip replacement in spring, but the surgeon postponed it as he said I needed to concentrate on my husband (quite right) and recovery from major surgery is slow. Now Richard is in remission I’ve been told I can have the replacement. It’s due for November (no firm date yet) and I can’t wait. The pain at times has been awful and I’m so limited in what I can do…especially in the garden. The downside is that we had hoped to go away for Christmas/New Year to Madeira…as a kind of special holiday for us both…now it looks as though I won’t be able to fly until February at the earliest…Hey ho, never mind, we’ve booked a package in Cumbria which at least means we’ll have a relaxing festive season.

So glad you have got a sort of date. It can be very wearing living with the pain. Sorry that it does mean delaying your holiday abroad but I'm sure you will have a lovely time in Cumbria.

Sounds like good news and bad news Julia. It’s no fun being so limited in what you can do, and a great shame to have to forego your Madeira holiday - at least for now.

My OH will have a heart bypass op in November, and I was hoping we might go to France in January to stop him fretting about all the things he can’t do . . . but because I have Chronic Fatigue / ME, neither of us will be able to lift a suitcase!

Oh goodness.....I really feel for you having to go through all of Richard's treatments while in so much pain yourself. And now you have to go through your own op. and rehab. Goodness me, you are brave. But I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. Chronic pain is so depressing.

Sheila...get someone else to lift the luggage for you. Just play the 'disability' card at the airport and they will look after you. It's only right that you should get some help with all that you are going through and a break would do you both good. :)

I am glad to hear that your husband is now in remission as I had been wondering how he was getting on. So glad that you will now get the op that you so badly need. Have a lovely time in Cumbria, I'm sure you will get to Madeira
eventually & it will be a lot cheaper than going there at Christmas I should think. Good luck to you both for the future.

As Sheila says, good news and bad. I bet you will have a great time in Cumbria and then perhaps visit Madeira at a later date.

Thank you everyone. Maderia will no doubt still be there when all our health problems are sorted. We both love Cumbria and as my OH ancestors come from that area we can get a bit of tracing done at the same time. I'm in two minds about my hip op. I'll be glad to be rid of the pain but as they're not putting me to sleep I'm rather nervous too.

Oh dear, does that mean you will have an epidural with sedation?

I'm happy to hear of you husband's remission.

I'm pleased to know you're due to have a hip operation. It means you'll be out of pain, and that means when you eventually go to Madeira you'll be able to enjoy it better, and you'll have a lovely Christmas in the meantime :) Great news !
and isn't it wonderful about Richard being in remission ...

That is good news about your husband, Waddy. I think you are better off in Cumbria as if think Madeira is a bit hilly. Not good if you have just had a hip operation.

that is good news waddy. hope your op goes well too.

Linda; Cumbria isn't exactly flat...but we'll have the car, something we wouldn't have in Madeira.

Thank you SBG x
