Hiding Hilary

My next door neighbor has a driveway very close to her house. Their cars have to line up single file. There are now four cars in line and probably more to come as they have two older boys. We love our neighbors, but not the cars.
Six years ago, I decided to make a green screen to soften the view. I was competing with the roots of two large trees.
And an enormous bed of Pachysandra…
So very slowly, planted these. Now some have to be moved, this spring as they have become too big. Pick axes required, and lots of organic material and manpower.
This Screen gets full sunlight most of the day, so water is a problem as plants start to grow. Once established, they seem to be fine.
The first year, planted Alberta Spruce, two Cedars and Bird’s Nest.
Growing slowly
Looking better…
Last Fall, introduced some golden Cedar. Too small to show in photo.

Worth the effort and all the watering for sure. I was only saying to the manager of my favourite nursery yesterday...I can never resist a beautiful conifer. They give so much. It's annoying when they get too big. The four seasons garden ...on here...Marie and Tony...they keep theirs to size with regular pruning. On their website they have instructions on how to do it which is very useful. I shall be following their advice in future as I have quite a few conifers here now. I love the effective screen you've created. It's just what I am doing to hide our cars from view from my patio.
