Is it just me?

Yesterday evening we went to Rosemoor Gardens to see them illuminated for Christmas. It was all very effective and seasonal and hundreds of white lights created the pathways we all had to take.
However, what thrilled me the most?
In the plant centre was a simple arrangement in a large round basket which contained 3 pale lemon primroses, 3 trailing ivy plants and 3 white hyacinths in the centre. It was lovely.
It was the highlight for me!
The photos here are not recent ones but will give an idea of how the gardens looked.

The illuminations are very pretty, they remind me of how my dad used to take us to see the rocks and cliffs down the Mumbles when they were lit up ... but I prefer the Primroses lol ... so it isn't only you :)

I often think simple planting with good plants is often much more impressive than 'fancy' plants.
must make the effort to get up to Harlow Carr and see the winter walks there.

No,it isn't just you,Chris.I think simple planting is much more effective, although the lighting is spectacular..so glad you had another nice day at Rosemoor gardens :o)xx

Sometimes a well-designed planting, no matter how simple, is the most effective thing of all. I love Christmas lights (and we have a fair few ourselves) but not much can beat primroses 😊.

No, not just you! Tbh, I'm not really a fan of these lit gardens. I find the bright colours jar with me. Gardens, for me, are about nature, so unless the lights are illuminating the plants, they do nothing for me.

I start planting with a clean simple idea, but enthusiasm usually overtakes me.

I so agree with you WR. simple is often best, although the illuminated trees do look effective. Did you buy the pretty arrangement?

Looks lovely! Pity you didn't get a photo of the arrangement you liked! Were those primroses outdoors? I have the odd flower here and there but nothing like that!
