Anyone out there that can help me with computer problems, I have just had a new hard drive fitted and yesterday as I was trying to send emails they would not go instead I was getting a yellow thing and error next to it, what then appears after trying to send email is a notification saying Server Unexpectantly terminated the connection, possible cause server network problems, I phoned the computer man and he checked the server out, “Virgin” and he said they had no problem,, so I was hoping someone out there could advise me if there is anything I can do to rectify it myself,

Friday Pimpernel, started having these problems yesterday morning, its like a yellow triangle that comes up with a exclamation mark in the middle and error next to it,

Have you tried System restore ?
If you restore your computer to a date and time when you know it was working correctly.

Hi Yorkshire who is your internet provider, as Pimpernel as advised you can restore your computer to an earlier time when everything was working fine

Internet provider is Virgin, my daughter said she will talk me through how to restore as you both suggest, to be honest I am not the brightest spark when it comes to computers,

I told you I am on the same lay line yorkshire..I have had over 400 updates in 4 days and twice had the same error message.
System restore has [touch wood] sorted things out. i am with BT so it is not a problem with Virgin.

Fingers crossed you get it sorted out, Yorkshire - my computer baffles and infuriates me on a very regular basis, and following technical instructions in a foreign language is just not my forte. Luckily, the last little glitch, after 2 days of torn hair and shouting at the screen, righted itself overnight. I've still no idea why, I'm just grateful.

I have been getting that yellow triangle on my laptop over the past few days..It says I am connected but Its like it has been stopped somehow..although when i go to connections it says im still connected..I'm with TALK TALK
It hasnt been happening on the gomputer..jsut the laptop.//weird..
i tried a system restore but its still happening ......

I've just lost my connection again.. I think it's all the updates. No problem with the laptop but I don't like using that.

My In-Laws have Talk-Talk, Pixi - they have nothing good to say about it, and have had endless problems: perhaps it's the same for you.

I had that error message the other day too! It appeared to right itself after a few hours. I put it down to Gremlins! ;o)

Try system restore Yorkshire
1) Go to start
2) ALL programs
3) System tools
4) System restore
You can restore it to an earlier time
Then restart computer
Thats what i did on the laptop and it seems ok now. :)))

if you look at the bottom of the start box there is a search option ~ you could put system tools into that.

hope you got it fixed val, im on talk talk and i find things ok with them, its all about luck i think, i think all network providers have their problems,
but going back to a date when it worked would be a good idea, or check if the email you use is set to be your primery one, may have been changed.

isn't there a phone helpline? most isp's have one, but some charge and not cheap rate, either (that's why I went for o2, free phone calls 24/7 AND they're in this country, not farmed out to people reading off screens in India!)
Finding a good pc tech is always a prob: one can find plenty advertising, but how does one know if they're any good? Word-of-mouth is the best recommendation - maybe ask friends, family, etc if they've used anybody that was any good
The good thing about System Restore is that you can always undo it later - if you try and it don't work, you can undo what you just did. *s* I try never to fiddle with my pc if i'm not sure I can undo anything, just in case I do something terminal!

We have a brilliant, self-taught but infallible computer guy. Problem is, he's a chronic depressive, with a love of alcohol and an impenetrable Calabrese accent. He tends not to come out, but will try to tell you what to do to put things right, giving directions over the 'phone. Shame you can't see hand gesticulations over the 'phone - I have terrible difficulties understanding him.

Afternoon you wonderful lot out there, well Computer man came at half ten, he was quite baffled by it too so he phoned NTL to be told for days now they have a massive problem, please don't ask what or how he did it I really don't know, what I do know is they talked him through and he had something on screen and they told him to remove the NTL address and type in Virgin Media, this he did and Hey Presto it sorted it all out, email is now fine, they did say that it would not have worked if he had not phoned, I thought I would have to change for email address but I haven't, I would like to thank you all so much for trying to help, and to Pimpernel, thank you for yesterday I really appreciated having you on the end of the phone, x

the thing to do now, if you can , is to create a Restore Point, so tht the pc will "remember" the settings as they are now, and (heaven forbid) if you should get any trouble in future, you could try restoring it back to its present setting - ie working!

Now my oen website has been declared unsafe!!!!!!! I contacted freewebs and they said there has been a huge problem! Nothing I can do about it all. SOme hackers or something! Why are people so horrid!

It is a family thing Sticki..It happens sometimes if they are tall and very slim..Both my female cousins had this happen as well..one was 17 and 6ft 5 the other 16 and 6ft 6...Thank heavens for being short.

Been following this blog with interest, so pleased you have it fixed at long last, apart from knowing about system restore my knowledge is more or less zilch so did feel for you Yorkie as I have been in similar situations over the years.

Thanks Yorkie & Lincs..He' s been moved to a general ward so I guess he is on the mend..worry about infections though there are a lot of colds doing the rounds.

believe me me H/B we have had dreadful coughs and colds, Ralph still has his 6 weeks on, had to have a new hard drive in my computer, £85, then I could not get email, another £10 to get that sorted, hope T gets in for that Op soon

4 of the lads at work have had hernia OPs..They're fit as fiddles now...
Nephew is back in intensive care they can't re-inflate his lung..So looks like an Op any day now, they have said once he is patched it will never blow again..But he has to have a full body scan as they want to know the cause of this...

Wythenshawe, I imagine, or Withington? I reckon Wythie is one of the best hospitals in the country - they saved our friend last year under very sudden, serious and unforeseen circumstances. She was minutes away from death. Your nephew should be in good hands. Can't speak for the non-medical and nursing staff.....

Well that was quick...His lung has been inflated without an OP and stayed full overnight and through till now. Moved to the Transplant ward...where they have the right equiptment. It's looking good.

Hooray..Indeed, I know he was terrified of having an Op. This is his first illness, I think it has shocked him silly and made him realise he is not immortal.
