Chippings With Everything

Due to the history of the town, land ownership is never simple in Bracknell. For example, land at a local park is split between the Borough Council, the Town Council and Southern Water!
It’s the same outside my house; the planted bit belongs to me, but the grass is owned by the Borough Council.
For 28 years, they have steadfastly ignored their responsibilities, and I have been forced to carry a lawnmower out the front gate to cut it. Starting from next month, the Council have decided to start charging for the kerbside collection of our garden waste, so I decided it was about time they were made to take responsibility for their land. So I informed them I would be making an identical charge for the cutting of THEIR grass.
Suddenly, after previously refusing permission, they have allowed me to replace their tatty, weed-infested verge with chippings. So no more will the mower see the front of the house.
I think it looks much tidier now.

we have to pay for our garden waste to be taken away, it was free the first year then after that in came the charge!

so far E.Yorks still take it for free as it helps them hit their recycling targets. People said if they started charging then the housewhold waste would have it mixed in. not good for landfill.
it looks so much better. didnt you fancy asking if you could garden all of it?

Sticki - when they introduced our garden waste bins, there was a charge for it but collection was free, now we have to pay for it to be emptied. One group of residents did they take them to the Council Ombudsman, but they lost
Sbg - the footpath is not very wide so plants would probably get trampled if I tried to plant it up. There was some fly-tipping of garden waste as soon as the charge was announced and many bins were returned as well

I think we got the bins free but now there is an annual charge for collection, its a fortnightly collection as is general rubbish and recyclable.

good for you! but you should still send them a bill for the years that you cut their grass for them - they'd be quick enough sending you a bill if the situation were reversed.

that's a hell of a complicated system! can imagine me getting out a calculator and trying to work out which wuold be more cost-effective.
