Today we were driving into the mountains and into snow. We were back in rhododendron territory
First in our sights was rhododendron phaeochrysum
This was closely followed by rhododendron rupicola
Rhododendron impeditum
And rhododendron primuliflorum
By now, we had passed the highest point on our tour and the weather started to warm up and improve.
In a damp patch, we found trollius farreri
The short alpine grass was studded with white and blue forms of anemone obtusiloba
The tiny polygonatum hookeri is a relation of our native Solomon’s seal
Paraquilegia microphylla is an alpine the tour leader was especially keen to see, and the local guide knew exactly where to find it
On our way home, we stopped at Tiger Leaping Gorge to see the famous bend on the river Yangtze. This is now a very commercial tourist stop, but at 6pm we were the only people there
To be continued ….

More beauties to admire and I'll echo what Honeysuckle said.

The rhododendron in the snow is really beautiful and the last picture of the River Yangtzee just amazing.
I too think Honeysuckle put it so well.

In your shoes I would feel like one of the Victorian plant-hunters, except that you hunt with your camera! Lovely images yet again. Thank you.

Another day full of surprises. Interesting to see those plants growing at altitude.

Absolutely stunning scenery, not sure I'd want to be near that river at dusk though, it does not instill a feeling of peace somehow..Beautiful plants, its a real treat to see them growing naturally where they belong ...

Your tour is absolutely amazing and to see the plants in their native habitat is special. Thank you for sharing your photo's with those of us who are never likely to visit.
