***Have you met The Green Man***

He is wonderful, much more in keeping with the spirit of the Celtic god than some of the grinning representations I have seen! Long may he preside over the garden, whoever made it has much skill and imagination.

DD, have the girls read The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy Boston? The old house in the story has a large topiary Green Man in the garden. A good sometimes creepy story, with sequels too if they enjoy it. I think it was on TV some years ago but would recommend the book all the same.

DD - well it is a childrens' book but I read the whole series for the first time with great pleasure when I was in my 50s..Had a career change at that age from serious information work to childrens' librarian... but then I do still love kids books!

He’s wonderful Dotty! And no-one is too old for the Green Knowe books! The house where Lucy Boston wrote is still owned by the family, it’s in Hemingford Grey, and the garden can be visited easily. Masses of topiary and great fun.
